About John Trager

There's more than one way to live a meaningful life.

I don't teach people how to live their lives. I help them explore how they want to live.

Learning to question the expectations.

As a young person, I was often recognised for doing what was expected of me. I was a school captain, earned a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and became a Queen's Scout. I joined a hospital board and bought my first home while still young.

From the outside, I was achieving. On the inside, achievement didn't necessarily bring a sense of direction or contentment.

Over time I began questioning the rules and expectations I'd taken on — and exploring what a life guided by my own values might look like.

People & Patterns.

My work combines mentoring, lived experience, curiosity, creative exploration and a deep interest in human behaviour. I listen, ask questions and help people explore patterns and choices without prescribing how they should live.

I don't believe everyone needs a grand goal before they can begin. Sometimes choosing a value, experimenting with a small change and noticing what happens is enough to start learning.

Awareness creates possibilities. Action creates change.

Alongside mentoring, I'm a songwriter and the creator of The John Trager Show — The Complexities of Being Human. Creativity, exploration and human connection are part of both my life and my work.

Mentoring and listening sessions are non-clinical services, not psychotherapy or mental-health treatment.
